Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo

Indigenous and Rural Outreach

Indigenous and Rural Outreach is vital to the Multicultural Associaton’s mission of fostering inclusivity and understanding.

Our Outreach events, programs and services aim to bridge cultural gaps by connecting rural and Indigenous communities with MCA programs, services and events, as well as by ensuring that truth and reconciliation remains a focus of all MCA initiatives.

Every year on May 5, Red Dress Day is acknowledged as a National Day of Awareness to honour the lives, stories and spiriats of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People across Canada.

On this day, we stand with their families and communities – bearing witness, raising our voices, and calling for justice and systemic change.

On May 5, we wear red and display red dresses in a powerful act of solidarity and remembrance.

National Indigenous People’s Day takes place every year on June 21. It is on this day that we take time to recognize and celebrate the history, contributions, resiliency, and cultures of Canada’s First Nations, Mètis, and Inuit peoples.

On September 30th each year, Canada acknowledges National Truth and Reconciliation Day – also known as Orange Shirt Day.

On this day, we acknowledge the tragic legacy of the Canadian Residential School system and the severe impacts that it continues to have on Indigenous families and survivors today.

November 8 marks Indigenous Veteran’s Day. It is on this day that we acknowledge and commemorate the contributions of Indigenous Veterans in the First and Second World Wars, as well as the Korean War.

On this day we express our gratitude for the contributions that Indigenous veterans have made to Canada.
