Executive Director

Muna originally came into the role of Executive Director after working on the MCA’s volunteer Board of Directors since 2017. During that time, she has been able help promote a community where equality, diversity and inclusion thrives.

Ever since a young age, Muna has always had a passion for helping others. This passion led her to pursue a degree in social work. Her goal is to create a welcoming community for all who decide to make Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo their home. She is the proud mother to a beautiful daughter and wife to a wonderful and loving husband.

Rasha Hassan
Events & Communications Manager

Rasha is the MCA Events and Communications Manager She oversees planning multicultural events, which she finds is a great opportunity for our diverse community to represent their origin cultures and showcase these cultures to everyone in the RMWB. Rasha is passionate about people and committed to helping them. She is a connector who loves to bring people together.

In and out of her professional life, she is always finding herself in the middle of planning fun and memorable events for the people around her – which is why event planning is right up her alley. She has experience working with multicultural groups in a few different countries. Rasha always believes that working in an environment with people of different backgrounds, races and nationalities can be a rewarding and fulfilling professional experience. It always inspires innovation and productivity.

Shannon Lloyd
Interim Executive Director

Born in a small-town southeast of Edmonton, Shannon is a true-blue Alberta girl! She has lived in many other places, but her heart and soul belong in Alberta. She can never seem to stay away from this glorious sunny province for long. Her early career started out in disability services, where she garnered many skills and trainings. From there she got her toes wet working in the Oilsands with a service company. It was at this point Shannon decided it was time to go back to school.

After college, she began working for the local Municipal Government. In this position she ascertained many Emergency Management trainings and Emergency Social Services trainings. Like many others in the community, Shannon and her family made the choice to relocate to Fort McMurray because of work. It was here that she returned to work in the oilsands as a project coordinator / interim project manager. It did not take her long to realize that she missed working with and helping people. This realization led her to the MCA, where she could not be happier within the organization!

Aysha Kadour
Welcome Centre Coordinator

Aysha is the Welcome Centre Coordinator, in charge of connecting newcomers and local members of the community to various resources in town. Her background in Sociology and Anthropology has provided her with the theories and knowledge of understanding how various societies deal with diversity and incorporate cross-cultural changes.

Aysha’s area of specialization has provided her with the ability to bridge theory with practice by being sensitive and considerate of a client’s cultural background and other identities that they might subscribe to in the interest of being able to cater to their needs and match them with a service that is best suited towards the individual. Precious Emelogu
Language Services Coordinator

Meet Precious, a dynamic and ambitious business diploma graduate born in Nigeria and raised in Fort McMurray. She is currently on her journey to obtaining a degree with a major in Business Management and a minor in Human Resources. Precious is the Language Services Coordinator committed to facilitating seamless communication, fostering an inclusive environment, bridging language barriers, and facilitating cross-cultural understanding in Fort McMurray. 
 
Precious enjoys exploring new cuisines, gardening, writing, singing and digital and creative arts outside of her professional endeavours. With her proactive mindset and passion for making a positive impact, Precious is poised to excel in her role and contribute significantly to helping newcomers into the Wood Buffalo region.

Aileen Adorable
Project Coordinator

Aileen is a passionate and determined person. She is originally from the Philippines and moved to Canada in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Accounting in the Philippines. When she arrived in Fort McMurray, she worked extremely hard to obtain her Permanent Residency and become a Canadian Citizen. After 10 years of being a full-time mother, Aileen decided to return to school and pursue a degree. She began working for MCA in 2023 as a Project Coordinator, two weeks after completing her Business Digital Marketing Management degree. Now that she has returned to work, she feels happy to see people from various backgrounds working together to welcome and showcase their diverse culture and traditions.
 
When she is not working, Aileen enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, playing badminton, gardening, and listening to positive audio. Her goal is to promote inclusion and diversity while also treating people with respect.

Chase Gargus
Communications Coordinator

Chase is the interim Communications Coordinator with the MCA. Although Chase was raised here in Fort McMurray, he comes to us now from Victoria, BC where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology from the University of Victoria. He credits his upbringing in Fort McMurray for instilling in him a deep appreciation for diversity and the value of multiculturalism in communities.

In his spare time, Chase is an avid volunteer and activist within the Ukrainian Canadian Community and has worked with many Ukrainian organizations to promote cultural awareness and support newcomers to Canada. He is excited to once again be living in our vibrant community and looks forward to contributing to the important work of the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo.

Taylor Bredy
Program Coordinator

Taylor has joined our team as the Program Coordinator, where she will be involved in organizing various cultural awareness and financial literacy programs for the MCAWB to promote inclusivity in Fort McMurray. She recently moved to Fort McMurray after completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Calgary, where she majored in Communication and Media Studies with a minor in Sociology. Her background in these subjects provides her an extensive framework in understanding diversity and systemic social inequality, which can be applied to her role at the MCAWB.

In her free time, Taylor enjoys baking, listening to podcasts, and going to the gym, as well as spending time with her family and cat named Ritzy. 

Alexandra Hurley
Rural Indigenous Outreach Coordinator

Alexandra Hurley is the Rural Indigenous Outreach Coordinator with the MCA. As a proud Métis woman born and raised in the region, Alexandra brings a deep understanding of the local Indigenous communities and their unique needs to her role. Outside of the MCA, Alexandra is an entrepreneur, owning and operating Red River Company Inc., an Indigenous embroidery and promotional business.

 

Outside of her professional life, Alexandra enjoys outdoor activities like camping, hiking, paddleboarding, quadding, and snowmobiling.
