Your Welcome Guide to the RMWB

The Welcome Centre is a one-stop-shop for newcomers in Wood Buffalo to get connected with local organizations that help cater to their needs. Located in the Syncrude Sports and Wellness Centre in room 1312, the Welcome Centre helps by:

  • Listening to newcomer client needs and matching them with appropriate services in the community.
  • Setting up appointments on behalf of newcomers with services that they wish to take part in.
  • Eliminating frustrations experienced by newcomers by finding which service is best catered to their given circumstances.

Our Welcome Centre staff are equipped to help connect newcomers in the following areas:

Work: Jobs, Employers, Resume Workshops, Training for Work, Immigration Supports
Learn: Schools, English Classes, Volunteer Opportunities, Conversation Circles, Secondary Education
Life: Housing, Healthcare, Doctors, Directions, Transportation
Play: Cultural Associations, Community Events, Children's Activities, Community Programs
All appointments are free of charge.
Here is what you can expect when working with our Welcome Centre Coordinator:
1) Intake: A member of staff will ask you more questions to better understand your circumstances. 2) Community Match: If staff are able to match you with resources in the community, this can be done immediately. 3) Research Opportunities: If staff are unable to match you with resources in the community, staff will keep your information on file in order to research potential solutions for your needs. 4) Connect with Organizations: If your needs are able to be met, then Welcome Centre staff will connect you with local resources that can best cater to your needs*

*If your needs are unable to be met by a service that is currently available in the Wood Buffalo region, we will note the gap in service and work to find a solution.
