What is National Indigenous People’s Day?
Celebrated each year on June 21, National Indigenous People’s Day is a day to recognize and celebrate the unique history, contributions, cultures and resiliency of Canada’s First Nations, Mètis, and Inuit Peoples.
This day was established in 1996 as “National Aboriginal Day” and renamed later in 2017 to National Indigenous People’s Day.
Throughout Canada, Indigenous communities host events in order to celebrate their rich and diverse cultures and traditions.
How can I get involved?
You can participate in community events, gatherings and workshops as a way to learn more about the rich cultures of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples.
